Students have been reviewing rhythm for the past few weeks and it is finally beginning to show! As students remember the different patterns and rhythm values-they are able to do much more in music. one great way to get the older kids to review is rhythm bingo. We play by making a circle and sharing bingo markers. i have a set of bingo rhythm cards that i laminated to make more durable. i'll even let them lie on their tummies if i can trust them not to roll around or get silly. there is something about the carpet that makes kids want to play! I begin the first game by clapping different rhythms speaking the syllables. after our first game is complete-i just clap the patterns and the kids have to hear the syllable in their head. some classes have figured out that the easiest thing to do is to speak the syllables out loud (as a group) immediately after I've clapped the rhythm. such smarties!
