I teach in South Texas, where the majority population is primarily Hispanic (including myself). However, I've always been reluctant to include games in Spanish due to my insecurity with the language. After my Kodaly training, I finally found the courage to take on the challenge of the new repertoire and my kiddos love it!
(I have to create each video clip as a file in order to upload onto my website.) I have recorded a short clip between the final two players in one of my first grade classes. |
My fourth grade students are very eager to learn recorder and I am pushing them to the best of my ability without burning them out before we begin recorder karate in the Spring. We are working on the note 'B' and finally got through an entire song. Fourth grade learned Billy's Song and it is all played on the note B. The students sing first-then play the same rhythm sung using the recorder. The rest is simple call and response rhythms from me to them. |

1) Routine, routine, routine- I wish I could go back in time and follow through with every consequence as a new teacher
2) Never let your insecurity with the repertoire prevent you from teaching those awesome songs/activities
3) Pacing is everything.
Musically yours,
Miss Reyna
