Musically Yours,
Miss Reyna
Second grade is currently working on the rhythmic concept: half note and reviewing the pentatonic scale as their melodic concept. The focus song for the next few weeks is "Here Comes A Bluebird". I am hearing this song as I walk down the halls or as students wait in the lunch line- and it is GREAT! I know the students love playing this circle game. A student is selected as the 'bluebird' and they must weave in and out the 'windows' that are the students arms. Then they must pick a partner to 'hop in the garden' with while students sing the song. We play this game over and over to get that target phrase "Hey diddle dum a day, day, day" engrained in their brains! Once they have it memorized, we can begin dissecting it using notation, kinesthetic movement and aural questioning. Meanwhile, 3rd grade is reviewing the song "Button You Must Wander" and creating their own accompaniment on Orff instruments! I love this game- it lets me sit back and enjoy the music making. My 3rd grade students are really beginning to take ownership of the classroom and their musicianship. #proudteacher Musically Yours, Miss Reyna

Miss ReynaI grew up in Brownsville, TX and graduated from Homer Hanna High School. I have loved singing ever since I joined choir in 5th grade. After years of singing in choir, my hard work payed off with a scholarship to the University of Texas at Brownsville. I graduated in Spring 2012 with a Bachelor’s in Music Education EC-12, with an emphasis in Voice.I am a fully certified Kodaly teacher and looking to get my second certification in the Orff-Schulwerk process. I am qualified to teach all music to all grades (K-12) but I love the elementary level. Archives
