3rd grade is learning all about the four orchestra families. We had an introductory video lesson last week. We categorized the instruments by look, sound and characteristics. This week- I found a QR scavenger hunt from TPT and could not resist sharing it with the kids. They must locate all 20 instruments hidden throughout the room. Once they fill out their worksheet, they use the iPad to scan and self-check their papers. Some students chose to work alone, while others worked in pairs to help one another.

My kinder babies are quickly turning into not-so-little first graders. I am using a mixture of Feierabend's First Steps in Music and Gameplan's Kinder curriculum. We are transitioning from steady beat to pre-notation square rhythms. It is a HUGE jump and the students are working hard to get it just right. We are also slowly implementing barred instruments after non-pitched percussion. The kids could NOT be happier!
Things I've learned today: 1) It's ok if students aren't master rhythm readers right off the bat 2) Switching back and reteaching is part of the process 3) Anything that is done joyously is a cherry on top <3 Musically Yours, Miss Reyna |

I am qualified to teach all music to all grades (K-12) but I love the elementary level. Archives
