Last week second grade sang "Pick-A Pick-A Pumpkin" to reinforce the ti-ka ti-ka rhythm that was introduced to them. Students go into their 'pumpkin position', while pumpkin pickers sing in a small group as they pick a pumpkin. (essentially it is the game, 7-up, but with pumpkins) Having 3-4 individual singers allows me to hear who can sing in tune and who needs a little extra help. Also, I can hear if they can sing the rhythm of the week accurately for assessment.
My Rhythm gobbler station had students color code specific notes. It allowed students to review and associate each rhythm notation with a color. I believe the color association assists those kiddos who are visual learners.
The final result were these cute and colorful turkeys. I used the final products to help decorate the music room and my bulletin board, thanks kids!
