Dishman has come down with Quaver fever!! My district purchase the Quaver Online Music Curriculum for all the music teachers and it has provided that extra sprinkle of magic that my teaching needed. It is that crazy holiday season and students are getting excited. I needed something to break the routine and add some interactive "techy" fun. I am able to use many of the activities and interactive features in Quaver to supplement my Kodaly Today lessons. My students are pulled into Quaver's Marvelous World of Music by the colorful layout and cute animations. Students use Quaver's "Make A Melody" activity to aurally identify (s-m-l) melodic patterns and place them on the staff. I sing a short pattern on a neutral syllable "loo" and they must complete the patterns by identifying the next pitch and pointing to its placement on the music staff. I let students come up to board one at a time with a pointer, while I move the solfege circle from the computer. Quaver works best with interactive white boards, but sadly, I don't have one. Students can take turns for individual assessment or you can do whole-group responses for an introductory/review activity! Musically Yours, Miss Reyna

Miss ReynaI grew up in Brownsville, TX and graduated from Homer Hanna High School. I have loved singing ever since I joined choir in 5th grade. After years of singing in choir, my hard work payed off with a scholarship to the University of Texas at Brownsville. I graduated in Spring 2012 with a Bachelor’s in Music Education EC-12, with an emphasis in Voice.I am a fully certified Kodaly teacher and looking to get my second certification in the Orff-Schulwerk process. I am qualified to teach all music to all grades (K-12) but I love the elementary level. Archives
