Students are working in small groups to put the pitches they hear onto the music staff. They already know where so-mi-and la are on the staff- now they just have to listen and decode! The kids were challenged but once they were successful-they got into it. I will continue to have them work on the staff until they really get a handle of it. Look out for some singing videos soon!
This week- students are building towards notating so-mi-la. It has been a long journey but we have finally made it towards the visual representation on the staff portion of my unit. This year, I am working towards shifting my instruction to the Kodaly Today curriculum. It is a step-by-step process to get students to understand music on a kinesthetic, aural and visual level. It is a work in progress and the repertoire is extensive, but my student's ears have really developed over the coarse of this year!

Miss ReynaI grew up in Brownsville, TX and graduated from Homer Hanna High School. I have loved singing ever since I joined choir in 5th grade. After years of singing in choir, my hard work payed off with a scholarship to the University of Texas at Brownsville. I graduated in Spring 2012 with a Bachelor’s in Music Education EC-12, with an emphasis in Voice.I am a fully certified Kodaly teacher and looking to get my second certification in the Orff-Schulwerk process. I am qualified to teach all music to all grades (K-12) but I love the elementary level. Archives
