TEAMWORK = FUN LEARNING
This week i am having my first and second grade students learn/review sol-mi, ta, ti-ti and rest. i began with the song 'bee bee bumblebee' and purchased about 30 bee cut outs from a teacher store. I wrote in the quarter notes and eighth notes then laminated/cut them. ill be much happier once i have all the cutouts i want in a few years. as for now, buy-laminate-cut then repeat! The kids loved when I pulled these out after we learned bee bee bumblebee! I broke up the song by small phrases and had them figure out the rhythm in small groups. Once students figured out their phrase- they were allowed to create their own rhythm lines using bee (ta) and bumble (ti-ti) The students had to clap together then individually while others listened. I like to remind students that I'm not just grading how well they clap the rhythm- i'm also watching to see how well they work together, take turns and support one another while they work.
