center 1: instrument go-fish
last year, i cut/glued/laminated two sets of instrument sheets and turned them into cards. students are essentially playing go-fish while reviewing the instrument names and pictures.
Students love this center because it provides them with the opportunity to write on the "teacher's board". Students are naming the instrument and family while they trace it.
Students must follow the iPad rules while at this center. The group leader hands them out and they are using the app Melody street. This app is an interactive book that turns the interments into characters and each family lives on a different floor. It really is wonderful!
I always make it appoint to have a reading center so the kids can practice reading. I realize that some students are struggling readers-so i try to make it fun by letting them use a "reading buddy". These are my music room puppets and the kids enjoy reading so much more when they have a buddy!
This was an activity we did as a class last week. Students have an instrument taped to the back of their shirt and they have to figure out which one is theirs. Students are provided guided questions to help them figure out their instrument. I challenge students to make up their own questions and many of them come up and tell me the ones they've made up. I get really excited to try and encourage more of them to try.
Musically yours,
