Monday marked the 100th day of school and I wanted to bring that celebration to the music room! I had a variety of activities set up in the music room highlighting 100. By my bookshelf, we used the stopwatch on the iPads to read for 100 seconds. (1:40) Students would then count all the words they read in those 100 seconds. I let them write their numbers on the board so we could celebrate everyone's success. We put together 100 paperclips and took pictures of our chains. One of our 4th grade teachers linked it to math and asked the students if they estimated how many yards it would be. I made a mental note to incorporate more math in next years' 100 day celebration. We used a 100 chart to play roll A rhythm. Students had to roll the music dice 100 times and notate the music symbol each time. Once they were done-they had to count how many times they rolled each note. Then we could see how frequently each note made an appearance. In the final activity, student had to write the name of their favorite song on a post-it. I had a sign taped to my board that says: 100 Songs we love! I tried to have students mix it up because most of them like the same popular 5 songs on the radio. The rest of my classes enjoyed seeing what their friends listened to. Overall, it was a great day! I wish I could have celebrated the 100 day of school with the rest of my classes. For now, it was a special day for Monday classes. Here's to being 100 days smarter!
